He is noted for work in plant classification and evolution, and one of the instigators of the `F33f`_`[Angiosperm Phylogeny Group`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Angiosperm_Phylogeny_Group]`_`f-classification for flowering plants which is partly based on DNA studies.
